Are SIPs good for insulation?
SIPs have excellent insulation properties
SIPs, or Structural Insulated Panels, are excellent insulators. They are prefabricated with a special layer of high performance insulation in the middle of two sheets of OSB. Compared to regular construction materials, this unique design gives buildings great insulation and more efficiency when it comes to saving energy. The result of this is a cooler indoor space in the summer and a warmer indoor space in the winter. Moreover, the sound proofing properties of our SIPs make your home quieter by letting in less outside noise.
Our custom size SIPs come pre-fabricated with high performance insulation already inside each panel which saves on construction time resulting in a more cost effective build and faster build. Added to this, the project is cleaner because insulation doesn’t need to be added during the construction phase.
The construction method using SIPs results in fewer wooden studs inside the walls compared with traditional building methods. This, coupled with a large single core of insulation inside each panel, means less heat escapes and reduces cold areas in your home. This makes your building more airtight and is perfect for projects like Passivhaus. These fantastic insulation properties last as long as your building does.
SIPs energy-saving properties
SIPs have excellent energy saving properties and are around 50% more efficient than traditional wooden frames. The construction method seals your home tightly and is much better than traditional materials for warmth and heat retention which results in lower energy bills. This in turn cuts down carbon emissions meaning making SIPs better for the environment.
SIPs provide low U-values
Our SIPs come in a range of different thicknesses (100mm, 125mm, 150mm, 175mm and 200mm). This flexibility allows for a simple build project and the ability to easily meet U-value targets set for new buildings.
If you’re after an ultra-energy-efficient space, opt for our thicker range of SIPs. These achieve super low U-values (as low as 0.13W/m2K) which keep your home not only more energy efficient, but also super warm and cosy during the colder months!
